Meeting Minutes 1/20/22 - Winter Survival at Fort Snelling State Park

ree

On Friday January 20th, the Wild Wescotts 4-H club met at Fort Snelling state park in St. Paul to do our planned activity, learning how to survive in winter with DNR Naturalist Kao Thao.

First, Kao explained the types of situations where survival is necessary, and then he described the most important things we would need to survive. Then, he showed us all how to build a fire using a handmade bow. After that, we all learned how to build a quinzhee shelter.

Following our winter survival activity, Olive Gessner called the meeting to order at 6:23pm. We said the pledges, and roll call was taken. All in all, there were about 22 people present.

Old business included reminders to enroll in 4-H for any families who have not already done so, and a conversation about FMSC last month. Also, a reminder that upcoming events can be found on the calendar.

Under new business, the club will be doing international cooking for next month’s meeting. There will be more information to come! Members participating in Shooting Sports and Wildlife were also reminded that they can count the winter survival activity as two of their required hours.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:29pm by a motion, second, and unanimous vote.
